Legends of the East: The Cobra's Eye Review

Legends of the East: The Cobra’s Eye follows Catherine as she journeys back to India to search for her beloved Daniel who suddenly went missing. His disappearance seems to be linked to the return of the ancient Cobra’s Eye artifact, which has spawned a race between good and evil that could change the fate of the world, forever. Uncover the truth behind the mysterious object while racing against the clock to save Daniel.

I’ve said this before, but I HATE snakes. With a passion. So, I was nearly put off by the title of this game but, I was looking for something new to play and aside from the reptile reference, the game description was intriguing.

In Legends of the East: The Cobra’s Eye, Catherine Taylor receives a telegram saying her beloved Daniel has disappeared, and she must return to India to help find him. When Catherine arrives in the Port of Cochin, she is greeted by Daniel’s friend, Antonio, who believes Daniel’s disappearance is suspicious and related to the strange activity going on in the area.

Antonio is soon taken by a ghoulish figure and Catherine is on her own to investigate Daniel’s disappearance and the strange forces at work around Cochin.

Legends of the East Cobras Eye Title

Legends of the East: The Cobra’s Eye has sharp graphics and average animation in the cut scenes. While the voice-overs are well done, the dialogue itself is rather cheesy, and I found myself skipping through them. The characters all have different accents but I suppose that’s believable based on the maritime trade theme.

The background music wasn’t overpowering, but I did turn it down when it got repetitive. There are only two levels of gameplay, which surprised me for a collector’s edition. There also weren’t the typical extras found in many other CE’s – no achievements, morphing objects, or collectibles.  While their absence doesn’t bother me, I think that is what sets a collector’s edition apart for many players. The CE does include a bonus chapter and extra downloadable material.

Legends of the East Cobras Eye Graphics

The overall gameplay in Legends of the East: The Cobra’s Eye was very easy in casual mode. I tried the hint function once to see it work and would have been frustrated by its seemingly slow recharge if I had actually needed it.

The strategy guide provides step-by-step solutions if you get stuck and the interactive map helps to identify active areas and jump between scenes. One extra feature is a special lens, which glows in scenes where it can be used to find hidden objects.

Legends of the East Cobras Eye Hidden Object

The Legends of the East: The Cobra’s Eye hidden object scenes were predictable, somewhat jumbled piles of stuff with little interaction required.

Overall I didn’t find them challenging though there were a few objects hidden in the shadows that were more difficult to identify. If you are a hardcore HOS player, you will likely be disappointed by the lack of challenge.

Legends of the East Cobras Eye Puzzles

Similarly, the mini-games were kind of meh, not too original and not overly challenging. I don’t consider myself an expert by any means, but these were simple even for the most casual gamer. The puzzles and games were all familiar concepts, set to the theme of Legends of the East: The Cobra’s Eye.

Overall, I mostly enjoyed Legends of the East: The Cobra’s Eye and recommend it as a relaxing, easy hidden object adventure game.
