With getting rid of the ice, you have to look for pieces of coal that is scattered around the Island...the crow has one (use the archers to get it), there is one in the fire pit up by the snowman (if i remember correctly)...I don't remember the rest (i will try to go back through to figure it out). Once you find the coal, take it back to the "eskimo" village, and one of them will give you the upgrade for fire towers...then build the fire towers near the ice blocks to free the penguins. Be sure to collect the ss along the way...you will need 25 for the idol. As far as the witch's root...I found a link through www.playfirst.com in the forum for totem tribe (otherwise type totem tribe walk through into the yahoo search engine and look for the play first link
